Finlay James Sg2 Apprentice Dancer

Finlay began dancing in 2012, starting in ballet and then moving on to contemporary, before joining Stopgap in 2018 as an Sg2 apprentice.

He first gained experience working in integrated dance with Candoco dance company’s youth group, Cando2. With them he performed at UDance and the first ever Commonwealth Youth Dance Festival, and took part in two specially commissioned works choreographed by Jemima Hoadley and Welly O’Brien, featuring multigenerational casts including disabled services veterans.

Fin was also a member of DanceEast Centre for Advanced Training and during his time there got to work with a number of dance makers including James Wilton, Antonia Franceschi and New Adventures.

He has also performed at a gala evening alongside members of the Royal Ballet.

Fin worked with Stopgap as a teaching assistant supporting participants in the Norfolk and Norwich Festival performance of The Seafarers. He loved the experience and it cemented for him that with Stopgap’s methodology and training programme, he could develop as a professional dancer. He is Sg2’s/Stopgap’s first autistic dancer.
