Meritxell Checa

Meritxell joined Stopgap in March 2016. Born in Barcelona, she studied from 2006 at the Folkwang Hochshule, Essen (Germany).

Her professional credits include working with Alias Compagnie (Switzerland); Tanztheater Wuppertal von Pina Bausch (Germany) and Johannes Wieland and the Staatstheater Kassel (Germany). Most recently she worked with DCA - Philippe Decouflé (France).

Meritxell has her own company, wilky troc, where she has collaborated with artists and companies to create dance works including Last Picture and Protocolo.

In 2015, while studying Natural Medicine at the FLMNE, Paris, she set up the Tanztheater Social Project (TTSP) to bring dance to non-professionals dancers. As part of this she created Etairas, a touring performance for women.

She has collaborated with Stopgap on The Enormous Room.
