Cherie on weeks 2 and 3

Cherie is at the end of her third week at Stopgap and has blogged about working with the Youth Companies and in the office

Cherie week 2

So these past weeks at Stopgap I have been really busy (but that’s good!)

I started off the week carrying on with the research and spreadsheets I have been doing. I have also been given the job of being in charge of The Great Big Charity Draw Christmas raffle. You can buy a ticket here for £1 and support Stopgap (and stand a chance of winning great prizes including an all expenses paid holiday!)

I also took part in my first company class. I thoroughly enjoyed it and got to meet all the dancers in the Company. Everyone was so friendly and made me feel comfortable in the class even when I found parts of it challenging.

On Wednesday we have the Open Company class at the University of Surrey and we progressed on what we had learnt the week before. After the class it was the SG Guildford Youth Company who I always look forward to working with. We focused on piecing together the choreography that we will be performing in the Christmas platform at the Farnham Maltings on 10 December.

I was lucky enough to take part in another Company class on Thursday where we worked on contact improvisation and manipulating each other’s movements. We also worked on mirroring our partners' centres. We then moved on to a bit of technique and then some repertoire. I really enjoy these classes as it pushes me as an individual and helps my technique improve.

Friday I was fortunate enough to go and sit in and watch the Company rehearse for their new work Artificial Things which they will be touring. The piece is amazing, I was so pleased I was able to watch and I can’t wait to see it on stage with all the lights and costumes.

This week I have been carrying on with my ongoing tasks and research (it helps now that I’m starting to work the Mac properly) I also took part in the University of Surrey’s welcome show along with Sg2 where Nadenh and Tomos performed a beautiful duet. I had to speak after they had performed about my involvement with Stopgap, what we offer and what people can get involved with. So hopefully we will see a lot more people joining the SG Guildford Youth Company and Open company Class.
