Helen on Late Night Tales
Creative Learning Intern Helen writes about the success of Stopgap's annual Winter Community Dance Platform
For many weeks now we have been busily preparing for Stopgap Dance Company's Winter Platform. From deciding upon the title, Late Night Tales; inviting audience; booking the venue; decorating costumes to creating the programme. And that's just in the office! Our dancers, Youth Companies and community groups have been working tirelessly to create their pieces. Choreographing, developing and rehearsing each piece from start to finish has taken over the autumn term. I have seen each member accomplishing great things, whether that be in technique, creativity or stage craft. Their hard work was made very clear by the high standard of performance presented on Monday.
The platform was a great success and presented performances from Sg2; Sg Troop; Farnham Youth Company; Stepping Stones and Guildford Youth Company. All of which excelled themselves with portrayals of the Jabberwocky monster, personal stories, Christmas parties and relationships. The performance was wonderfully supported and the audience response was fantastic (which for me is always the proof of a successful night)! I for one felt hugely proud.
The community platform was a perfect end to a great year for Stopgap, their emerging companies and community groups. Here's looking forward to an exciting 2015!
