Jade's farewell

Our University of Surrey placement student, Jade, summerises the last 9 months with the company...

It is said that all good things must come to an end, and for me that time has come. It is hard to believe that it has been almost 9 months since I first joined Stopgap, both excited and nervous for what I would be doing, and hugely apologetic about the trains not being on time!

Fast forward to now and I can honestly say I’ve had an amazing experience being here (and I’m no longer apologising about public transport!). I have had the pleasure of working with both Farnham & Guildford Youth Companies, I was lucky enough to be involved in workshops with Gosden House school, I managed to continue taking classes at every given opportunity, I’ve been involved with multiple performances throughout the year, I’ve seen ‘Frock’ through from organising the logistics of creation weeks to its premiere in Norwich and gained such a massive insight in the general day to day running of the company; from admin, marketing and creative learning. Safe to say I’ve had quite a well-rounded experience!

I’ve managed to be involved in just about anything and everything sent my way, and that is thanks to this wonderful team that have supported me throughout my time here. I am incredibly lucky and grateful that I was able to extend my time here having originally been scheduled to finish in April, but it meant I could be involved with a few more things before saying goodbye!

From being involved in so many aspects of the company, it has given me a lot of food for thought about life after university and broadened my horizons about the different opportunities available; which I am so grateful for. For now though, it’s time to think about one other thing before that happens – my final year of university! I’ll admit I am a little nervous about going back to uni (and still dreading the thought of dissertation!) but being on placement has given me the skills and confidence to go back in and work hard to finish my degree.

Thank you so much to everyone who has been part of my time here and made it so enjoyable, it has been the best experience I could have asked for.
