Stopgap's In-house Choreographic Commission
Stopgap dancers were given the opportunity to apply for an in-house choreographic commission with the chance to work on Sg2, Stopgap’s smaller scale company.
David Willdridge, who has been with the company since 2009, was successful in receiving the commission:
"David has a deep knowledge of Stopgap and how our choreography responds to our dancers. As a dancer he has always created wonderfully seamless, open and winsome movement material alongside his unconventional and daring partnering work. His choreography is certain to capture Sg2 perfectly." Lucy Bennett, Artistic Director.
David’s choreographic idea is placed quite close to home, looking at how everyone who works at Stopgap is part of a long chain of events. He explained: “Nadenh would not be here if certain people hadn’t helped, therefore Tomos would not be here if Nadenh hadn’t made it over from Camodia…it is a fragile balance of events.”
David already has a very strong image of what he wants to create with emphasis on creatively exploring the hidden bonds between everyone in Stopgap.
David’s piece, entitled ‘String Quartet’, will be toured by Sg2 in Spring 2014.
